Supporting Cultural and Land-Based Healing Projects
We are collaborating with Transition US to support and intercultural relations building trip supporting projects on the Pine Ridge reservation. The challenges there are huge, due to the legacy of colonizing and cultural oppression. As we all seek to find healing for our world, we believe it is essential that we form healthy intercultural relationships, learn from each other and support social and eco-restoration through support and service. Food, alternative energy sources, natural building and trauma healing are needed everywhere, but where there is a history of oppression such as on Native land, it is even more evident.
So we learn how to heal with each other, because we are all in this together.
Those of us who are coming from a white, westernized background are learning what it means too be a good ally. We are mindful of our assumptions and enter Native land only when allowed and with great respect. We are not there to play savior, or to co-opt the Native American culture, to profit or to receive accolades. We go in order to form authentic relationships based on trust and service. In this way, we take small steps in the bigger picture of healing for ALL of us.
This year, we are supporting the OLCERI project.

Medic Protectors
Medics keep people going so they can fight the good fight, the battle for clean water and a healthy planet. There are many aspects to this. Medics go to each camp, to access their needs as far as medical supplies, structures to work out of, personel to maintain the medic area, EMS availability, response time, Lifeflight landing area, and projected camp population.
Also, it entails education of basic first aid, camp safety, hygiene, and scene evaluation. To include, frontline aid, eye flushes, decontamination, and follow up. To accomplish this takes donations, money and supplies. On our Facebook page, we post where we are and show what we are doing and list what our expenses are and do keep all receipts. We will stay out here as long as water protectors have boots on the ground.
Thank you and Mni Wiconi, WATER IS LIFE!!!

WOULD YOU LIKE COME EXPERIENCE CAMP LIFE FIRSTHAND AND TO HELP THIS IMPORTANT CAUSE?
We are inviting people who are interested in joining to connect with us.
There is a need for people who are trained as street medics or have other medic training and experience, including first aid, CPR, wilderness first aid.
We are also seeking people who are trained as peer counselors, alcohol and drug counselors, social workers and counselors, especially those with experience working with trauma issues.
We offer orientation and training specific to being part of a medic team in a water protector camp.
One thing we are looking for is for those coming in to understand that this is an indigenous led movement, both the larger water protector movement and the medics. we are interested in critical analysis of settler colonialism, benefits of decolonization, and visioning indigenous liberation as completely integral to our mission. decolonizing medic care, along with our primary goal of 'keepin em breathin' is central to who we are and how we operate.
We focus on safety and illness prevention, as well as treating illnesses, injuries, and doing decontamination from tear gas, pepper spray etc. understand that you will be supporting those participating in Non Violent Direct Action. in addition to specific medic duties, tasks such as hauling water, hauling wood, cooking, washing dishes, chopping wood are part of the life of a cam
Conditions at water protector camps are hearty and can be harsh. it is a camp setting. we are looking for people with the general level of health and stamina to thrive in a traditional structure with a wood stove, with necessity for spending some portion of the day outside. depending on the season, the weather may be hot, windy, cold, or rainy, in addition to wonderful pleasant weather days. accommodations vary from camp to camp. people should be prepared to equip themselves for the weather, keeping in mind that they probably already have or can easily acquire at thrift stores the clothing items they'll need. we'll provide first aid equipment, as well as coordinating with team members to help them assemble their aid bag before coming into the field.
Food is provided by the camp -- the food that is provided is generally non-vegetarian.
What you will need in order to join us:
Like era of care, the medic group offers support and orientation tailored to the interests abilities and needs of team members. we are the first point of contact, and together we can determine placement based on fit, and the needs of the camps at the time.
Tours can be of variable length. a minimum length of 2 weeks is suggested, in order to arrive, get acclimated and trained, and have some time to serve.
